CPD: Working well with LGBTQ+ clients for counsellors and wellbeing practitioners (with reflective practice exercise)

4 half-days - to be arranged

The course will be facilitated by Max Cohen and another of our IAAYW professionals.

Max Cohen is an Accredited Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversities Therapist (Pink Therapy), a qualified trainer and group facilitator and has worked supporting people in various roles in the Southwest of  England for over 25 years. He is the Founder and Director of It’s All About You Wellbeing CIC (IAAYW).

Co-facilitators are active members of IAAYW with specialist interests in diversity, training and counselling.

  • The content will be presented in a number of ways, through presentations, pairs work, video, brief experiential exercises, individual reflection, group discussions and anonymised case studies

  • Over the two days we will look at ‘coming out’, intersecting issues, working with family members and partners and talking about sex and sexuality

  • Day 1& 2 - A focus on gender identity (trans, cis, non-binary, genderqueer, gender fluid etc)

  • Day 3 & 4 - A focus on sexual orientation (lesbian, gay and bisexual etc)

  • Completion of an additional reflective practice exercise to be eligible for a discounted 12 month directory entry on It’s All About You Wellbeing website

  • If you have any accessibility requirements or need support to complete the booking, attend the online training and/or complete the reflective practice exercise please let Max know before booking.

IAAYW invites you to a monthly networking meeting for counsellors and wellbeing practitioners who have a listing on the directory or for any other counsellors and wellbeing practitioners working with LGBTQ+ clients.

We'll introduce ourselves, share ideas and discuss topics that lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans+ communities may be affected by

  • An opportunity to network with other professionals in Devon and the Southwest

  • Find out about LGBTQ+ events in the local area including Pride events

  • Updates about It’s All About You Wellbeing

  • Attendance certificate included

IAAYW invites you to two legal webinars with guest speaker Bridget Garrood, a Consultant Solicitor with Ian Walker Family Law and Mediation Solicitors.

Bridget was nominated by Exeter University students of  LGBTQ+ and Law and awarded The Exeter University Debbie Hill Alumni Volunteer Award 2020. She leads a project team for Trans and Non Binary Inclusion as part of the Law Society LGBT+ Lawyers Division Committee which aims  to improve, for trans and non-binary people (whether or not they openly identify as trans and/or non-binary) and for the legal profession as a whole. 

She is an engaging speaker and will outline points of law and legal processes including

  • Name and document changes

  • Gender Recognition Certificate and Gender Recognition Act 2004

  • Equality Act 2010

  • Family law, for example, civil partnership, marriage, divorce, domestic abuse and spousal veto

The session is facilitated by Max Cohen, a counsellor, trainer and the Founder and Director of It’s All About You Wellbeing - LGBTQ+ counselling and wellbeing in South West England.

He will talk about best practice in supporting trans+ employees at work and what trans+ people can do to look after their wellbeing during their transitioning process.
